MILLI MAJLIS SPEAKER MEETS IRAN`S NEWLY APPOINTED AMBASSADOR
Baku, August 14 (AzerTAc). Speaker of Azerbaijan Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov has met today with Iran`s newly appointed ambassador Muhammad Bagir Bahrami.
Asadov told of historical and cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Iran.
He said the two countries` presidents had played an important role in boosting bilateral relationship. More than 90 documents have been signed during reciprocal visits, he added.
Asadov noted development of bilateral political, economic and cultural ties serves the interests of the two countries` peoples.
He also pointed out Azerbaijan-Iran intergovernmental commission contributes to economic cooperation between the two countries.
Speaker said interparliamentary ties play a significant role in enhancing bilateral cooperation, adding friendship groups exist in the two countries` legislative bodies.
He also stressed the importance of reciprocal visits of the two countries parliamentarians and their meetings in international organizations.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Speaker praised the fact that Iran is committed to the principles of territorial integrity of states and inviolability of borders, and backs Azerbaijan`s position within the United Nations and OIC.
Muhammad Bagir Bahrami, in turn, vowed to spare no efforts to contribute to boosting relationship between the two countries.
The ambassador noted Iran was keen on expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan.
He added the two countries had good opportunities to deepen economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation even more.
