AZERI OMBUDSWOMAN MEETS NEW HEAD OF UNICEF REPRESENTATION IN AZERBAIJAN
Baku, August 14 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan`s human rights commissioner Elmira Suleymanova met Mark Hereward, new head of UNICEF representation in Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, Azerbaijani ombudswoman spoke about the measures undertaken in the county to protect children`s rights.
She also spoke about the declaration of the “Child Year” for 2009 in Azerbaijan and the ratification of Plan of actions in this regard according to the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 22nd December 2008, considering this as acknowledgment of importance of the children`s rights.
“We also make some efforts to implement long-term strategical programs in the coutnry under the United Nations program "A World Fit for Children,” ombudswoman added.
In his turn, Mark Hereward highly praised the activity of his Azerbaijani counterpart.
The meeting also discussed issues for further prospects of cooperation.
