BAKU HOSTS AZERBAIJAN-LATVIA BUSINESS FORUM
Baku, August 11 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan-Latvia Business Forum attended by presidents of the two countries today has taken place in Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Addressing the event, Azerbaijani Minister of Economic Development Shahin Mustafayev spoke of ongoing socio-economic reforms in the country, saying “these reforms were initiated by nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev and successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev”.
He added the country`s GDP was increased in 2.6 times, while industrial production in 2.5 during the past 5 years, as well as 35.000 new jobs opened, of which 25.000 are constant.
He stressed World Bank`s Doing Business 2009 report named Azerbaijan the top reformer in improving business regulations among 181 countries and improved its ranking by 64 places, from 97 to 33.
Touching upon economic relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia, Mustafayev said “there are huge potential for expansion of business ties and businessmen must benefit from this opportunity”.
Speaking to the event, Latvian minister of economy Artis Kampars briefly informed the participants on economic successes of his country.
The forum, organized by Azerbaijan Ministry of Economic Development and Azerbaijan Investment and Export Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) was attended by the two countries` businessmen engaged in various spheres, including tourism, education, telecommunication, finance and construction.
