Viduka move to Portsmouth in doubt
Portsmouth's plans to sign Australian striker Mark Viduka could be thwarted by a
takeover bid for the English Premier League club.
While manager Paul Hart has revealed that he has agreed a deal with Viduka in
principle, glitches with the STG60 million ($A119.83 million) takeover of the club
by Sulaiman Al Fahim could stop the Australian moving to Fratton Park.
The Sun newspaper on Monday reported that the problems stem from whether the club's
present owner Sacha Gaydamak can repay a STG20 million ($A39.94 million) loan by
next week so Al Fahim's takeover can go ahead.
Gaydamak could end up putting the club into administration.
"There appears to be a problem," Hart told the newspaper.
"Mark Viduka and I have spoken a lot.
"His fitness would be a concern but he's a quality player."
Viduka was plagued by injury during his time at relegated Newcastle, where his
contract ended at the end of last season.
The 33-year-old reportedly is after a two-year contract and STG40,000 ($A79,900) a
week to sign for Portsmouth, who had offered a weekly salary of STG30,000
($A59,900).
Last Friday, Hart told Portsmouth newspaper `The News' Viduka was still away on
holiday but had accepted an offer.
"I'm not sure how much work he has done, but we can't wait until November to get him
fit," Hart said.
"We made him a good offer which has been accepted, so I'm just waiting to see what
happens with him."
