RUSSIA SUPPORTS SETTLEMENT OF CONFLICTS IN CAUCASUS, TOP OFFICIAL AT AZERI PRESIDENT`S ADMINISTRATION
Baku, 8 August (AzerTAc). Russia supports resolution of conflicts in the Caucasus, said Novruz Mammadov, chief of department for foreign relations at Azerbaijani President`s Administration, while commenting on a statement of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin about his country`s stance on settlement of conflicts in the region.
Mammadov said for its geo-strategic position, the Sothern Caucasus is a focus of attention for the world`s leading countries.
“In this sense Mr. Putin`s statement that ‘Russia supports settlement of conflicts in the Caucasus as they negatively impact upon our relations with regional nations’ is understandable,” said Mammadov
According to Mammadov, the world`s leading states wish stability in this region for the sake of their own interests.
“However, may be it is these countries` interests that sparked conflicts which still continue in the region.”
Mammadov noted each side has its own stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He pointed out “Azerbaijan wants these stances to be coordinated and the problem to be solved on the basis of the country`s national interests”.
“The last processes say that the leading nations are already interested in settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Therefore, Armenia faces an increasing pressure,” Mammadov stated.
