Iran urges China to observe rights of Muslims
Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Sheikholeslam in a meeting with Chines envoy to Tehran called on China to observe the rights of Muslims in Xinjiang Uighur autonomous region which was scene of unrests recently.
According to the Information and Press Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the meeting, Sheikholeslam outlined developments in the Middle East region and said Iran and China are now exchanging views on such developments.
He also blamed some western powers for backing the Zionist occupiers and branded them as real cause of the crisis.
On recent unrest and developments in Xinjiang Uighur autonomous region in China, he voiced the concern of Iranian religious scholars and centers, calling on China to observe the rights of Muslims to freely carry out their religious ceremonies in the troubled region.
The Chinese envoy, for his part, opined on various issues including mutual relations as well as regional developments and briefed the Iranian side on the rootcause of unrests in the Chinese region.
Beijing is determined to restore tranquility and security to that troubled region and observe the legitimate rights of Muslims and those suffering losses during unrests.
He also highlighted the significant role of Muslims in China and underlined close relations between China and the Muslim world.
