Two arrested following Sydney siege
Three men are being questioned by police after a man was shot several times,
prompting a siege, in Sydney's west.
A 37-year-old man was shot, and possibly hit in the head with bricks, just after
12pm (AEST) on Sunday in Sulman Road before tactical response teams sealed off
several streets in Cabramatta West.
He was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
Three men were arrested outside a home on Disalvo Close, about two blocks from the
shooting, five-and-a-half hours later.
Police said the siege had been peacefully resolved but the operation was ongoing.
Cabramatta Police Detective David Tucker confirmed the shooting occurred just after
12pm.
"A 37-year-old Cabramatta man received a number of gunshot wounds on Sulman Road,
Cabramatta West," Detective Tucker told reporters.
Forensic investigators are assisting Cabramatta Police.
A crime scene has been established and police have appealed for anyone with any
information about the shooting to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
The Cumberland Highway in Cabramatta, between John Street and St John's Road, was
sealed off and motorists urged to avoid the area.
Residents were prevented from leaving their homes while the siege was underway.
