Private sector, US businessmen to set up `workforce training institutes`

SANA'A, Aug. 01 (Saba) - The private sector in association with US businessmen plan to set
up specialized
institutes to conduct studies on needs of the labor markets in Yemen's provinces of
Taiz and Aden.
Regional director of the Hayel Saeed Anam Group Mohammed Abdo Saeed said the move
comes after a similar institute in Sana'a showed it was a great idea.
The Sana'a Technical Institute has started qualifying jobless workforce and
training them to meet the needs of the labor market.
Four batches have graduated from the institute so far and all graduates could
attain jobs.
The institute, which was established under the slogan of ' education for work',
should be developed to cover roughly 7500 meters to qualify a further 4000 people.
Another institute which must train as many as 4000 jobless people would be set up
in Yemen's port city of Aden while the group will establish a third institute in
Taiz.
The Taiz institute will qualify 2000 workers.
Saeed, who is also president of the Yemen Federation of Chambers of Commerce and
Industry, said that Yemeni businessmen's initial contributions to the Sana'a
Technical Institute
started at $ 100.000 and US businessmen provided $ 200.000.
US involved businessmen could double their support in case the contribution of the
Yemeni side to these projects increase, he noted.
Saeed also said that the federation contacted the Union of Islamic Chambers of
Commerce and Industry in an attempt to gain support for specialized technical
institutes in
Yemen that will be responsible for qualifying Yemeni cadres for the Gulf labor markets.
