Red Shirt leaders to be indicted for disorder at Chief Privy Counselors home

BANGKOK, July 31 (TNA) - The Attorney-General's Office (AOG) will indict 15 central members of the anti-government United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) for causing unrest at the Si Sao Thewes residence of Privy Council President Gen Prem Tinsulanonda on July 20 two years ago.

The Attorney-General's Office's latest move overturned an earlier prosecution decision of the agency’s Department of Criminal Litigation to drop the case, saying that the UDD or so-called ‘Red Shirts’ were exercising their rights under the Constitution.

The Criminal Case Department also said the protest was carried out openly and without any arms.

However, National Police Commissioner Pol Gen Patcharawat Wongsuwan disagreed with the decision and resubmitted the case to Attorney-General Chaikasem Nitisiri for reconsideration.

The Department of Litigation of Attorney General Director-General Suwit Dithapae, a chief prosecutor, said the office decided to indict the 15 UDD members.

He said the decision would be sent to Department of Criminal Litigation to prepare for the trial, including the summoning of all suspects to acknowledge their charges.

The list of defendants include Veera Musigapong, Jatuporn Prompan, Natthawut Saikua, Wiphuthalaeng Pattanaphumthai, Weng Tojirakarn, Charan Ditha-apichai, Jakrapop Penkae and Manit Jitchanklab. (TNA)
