Yemen spent 78.4 percent of donors' pledges so far
SANA'A, July 31 (Saba) - So far,
Yemen has used 78.4 percent of the donors' pledges made at the 2006 London Donor
Conference,
directing$ 4.479 billion, out of more than $ 5.5 billion, into development projects.
Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation for Project Programming
Department Abdullah al-Sahtir said 50 percent of the funds went to infrastructure
and 50
percent went to human development as well as productive sectors, good governance and
institutional reforms.
$ 1.3 billion was allocated for the public works and roads sector with some of the
sum being allocated for flood-affected areas.
More than one billion dollars was directed into education and health projects as
well as reducing poverty.
The portion allocated for good governance and institutional reforms and water and
environment was estimated at approximately $ 1 billion. And about $ 1 billion was
allocated
for the sectors of electricity, agriculture and fisheries.
