Bashed cop speaks of her ordeal

A female police officer who suffered serious injuries when bashed and robbed in
Sydney has spoken about her ordeal.
Samantha Barlow, 34, was on her way to work at Kings Cross in the early hours of May
13 when a robber shattered part of her skull, broke her nose and left her with deep
lacerations.
Speaking on Channel Nine's A Current Affair, Sergeant Barlow said she has also
suffered emotional scars.
"I remember waking up in hospital and I have no recollection of intensive care, of
being in there for some three weeks, I have no memory of that," Ms Barlow said.
"Daily we have doctor's appointments, pretty much every day, some days we have two,
some days we have three.
"We've got the children to look after and of course I've got the psychological
issues that go with it."
Sergeant Barlow says she, husband Laurence, who is a police inspector, and their two
young children are only now piecing their lives back together.
Inspector Barlow described the moment he saw his wife for the first time after the
attack.
"Two of my good friends from work were knocking on my door and said 'Quick, we've
got to go to hospital at St Vincent's, it's not real good'," Inspector Barlow told A
Current Affair.
"I suppose it doesn't get much worse than that.
"I've been a cop for 25 years and been in a lot of accident and emergency sections.
"I was more than prepared to go in there, the difference being this time was it was
my wife and she was unconscious and had been put into a coma.
"I just had to be there, because I might have been saying goodbye to her."
The couple admitted the bashing left them both feeling vulnerable and Sergeant
Barlow still feels unable to return to work.
They feel angry nobody came to her aid for over an hour despite the attack happening
on a busy street near Kings Cross police station.
Roderick Holohan, 39, was arrested the day after the attack and charged with
attempted murder and robbery.
Police allege he attacked the sergeant with a house brick before stealing her
wallet, handbag, police badge, work shirt and trousers.
Holohan is due to face court next on June 30.
