Saudi Arabia’s envoy to be summoned to Foreign Ministry

The ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Tehran is to be summoned to the Foreign Ministry for mistreatment of Saudi officials in regards to Iranian pilgrims in that country, it was reported on Monday.

The ministry’s spokesman Hassan Qashqavi told reporters at his weekly briefing that Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki ordered recalling of the Saudi ambassador Sunday evening after receiving a report from the Supreme Leader's representative to the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization about the mistreatment of the Saudi officials with the Iranian pilgrims in that country.

Commenting on Iran-Egypt “covered” relations, the spokesman said, “Terhan-Cairo ties are not covert and the foreign ministers of the two countries have had a warm and friendly meeting in front of cameras” during a recent meeting in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh.

The 15th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was held in the Egyptian Red Sea resort in mid July.
Qashqavi referred to Egypt as a “great civilization in the World of Islam.”

“Iran and Egypt have some disagreements on certain issues while in other issues they share same views,” said the spokesman, stressing that the two capitals “can cooperate at the international scene in the fields that they share common views.”

Qashqavi also called for Iran-Egypt further cooperation at the NAM as the body ranked second after the United Nations General Assembly in terms of scale and significance.

Asked if Mottaki and the spokesman would be members of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s next government, Qashqavi said that diplomats of the Foreign Ministry would serve the country at any posts they would be appointed to.
