Iran supports rights of all world Muslims: Qashqavi
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi said on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is to support the rights of all world Muslims.
Talking to reporters during his weekly press briefing, he said Tehran is concerned over the violation of rights of all world Muslims including those in the Chinese province of Xinjiang.
He added that Tehran’s stands have been announced during contacts between Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and the Chinese and Turkish foreign ministers as well as the secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
However, he rejected comparisons made by several groups and personalities between the Xinjiang events and the ongoing genocide by the Zionist regime against the oppressed Palestinian people as well as the murder of Marwa al-Sherbini, the young Muslim woman who was stabbed to death in a German courtroom on July 1.
Qashqavi emphasized that making such comparisons are illogical and unrealistic moves.
He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign diplomacy system acts upon logic and expertise.
The crisis began in Xinjiang on July 5 when Chinese police severely cracked down on a demonstration held by Muslims in Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
The Uyghurs said they were protesting against the religious discrimination they experienced at the hands of the Chinese government. Over 180 people were killed in the unrest.
