Vietnam supports peace building efforts
New York (VNA) – Vietnam supports peace building efforts in countries that have
undergone conflict and is ready to share its experiences of capacity building and
international cooperation with all interested parties, said a Vietnamese diplomat.
Addressing the open debate at the United Nations Security Council on
“post-conflict peace building” in New York on July 22, the Vietnamese charge
d’affaires to the UNSC, Ambassador Hoang Chi Trung, acknowledged the importance
of measures taken by the UN in order to share information and mobilise finance for
peace building activities.
He noted that the UN and the international community need to uproot the
under-currents of conflicts by paying more attention to socio-economic
reconstruction, reducing poverty, eradicating hunger and implementing the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs).
The ambassador also pointed out the role of domestic governments in peace building
activities, especially in developing human resources and national self-reliance to
lay the foundations for nation building efforts.
He also said that international assistance should be tailored to and driven by the
specific needs and priorities of individual countries, with the consent of local
parties, to develop national ownership, self-resilience and self-reliance.-Enditem
