OIC attends 5th Session of 'Guinea' Contact Group in Conakry
Jeddah, July 21, SPA -- The Organization of the Islamic Conference
(OIC) participated in the recently concluded 5th meeting of the
International Contact Group on Guinea in Conakry.
Besides the OIC, there were other countries and international
organizations present at this two-day important meeting (July 16-17,
2009) which was convened for an in-depth examination of problems
standing in the way of the implementation of the time-schedule that
should lead the Republic of Guinea to organize
free, democratic and transparent elections in 2009.
The participants in the meeting of the International Contact Group
were received in an audience by Captain Moussa Dadis Camara,
President of the Republic of Guinea, who reassured them of the
determination of the State of Guinea and its National Council for
Democracy and Development (NCDD) to abide by the decisions reached in
concert with the international community, notwithstanding the serious
constraints noted at all levels.
The International Contact Group has also had talks with the Forum of
Active Players.
After these talks, the Contact Group managed to organize a meeting
between President Moussa Dadis and the Forum of Active Players, a
meeting which was broadcast live by the State-run television,
according to a press release of the OIC.
Following varied consultations and exchanges of views, the
Government of Guinea and the Active Players, reached a joint
agreement to follow up the path of political dialogue once again.
The International Contact Group expressed its satisfaction to the
Government of Guinea, the NCDD and the Active Players and urged them
to make every possible effort to evolve consensual solutions to the
problems of Guinea.
It also invited the international community to help Guinea achieve
success in its committed drive to organize legislative and
presidential elections in 2009.
The next meeting of the International Contact Group on Guinea is
scheduled for early September 2009.
