New Educational Programme to be Enforced from New School Year in DPRK
Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- A new educational programme will be enforced in the primary and secondary education sector from the new school year this year, according to Rodong Sinmun.
The key point of the new programme is the optional curriculum.
It is divided into literature, science, art, sports and technology fields, and each field has specific subjects.
The primary and junior middle schools will teach general knowledge according to the unified standard curriculum set by the state, and the senior middle schools and technical senior middle schools give education of the above said fields according to individualities of students, so that all students can acquire more than one technical skill at the secondary education stage.
The educational sector has pushed ahead with the work of drawing up new compulsory curriculum, compiling textbooks and applying the optional curriculum in some cities and counties on a trial basis.
It has organized various short courses on the new curriculum for the officials and educators in the field of education and put spurs to the preparations for training more teachers and laying material and technical foundations in contact with provinces, cities and counties. -0-
