Rabigh Governorate Expands Afforestation Efforts with Smart Mangrove Trees

   Jeddah, December 24, 2025, SPA -- Rabigh Governor Khalid Al-Mubairik has launched an initiative to plant 400,000 smart mangrove trees along the governorate’s beaches to expand vegetation cover, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and enhance carbon sequestration. This directly supports the objectives of the Green Saudi initiative, which aims to promote the protection of natural ecosystems and contribute to the national effort to achieve net-zero carbon emissions.
   This effort builds on a previous initiative launched in November, which targeted the planting of 175,000 smart mangrove trees with an estimated carbon sequestration capacity of 21,000 tons over six years. Together, the two initiatives aim to reach a combined goal of 400,000 smart mangrove trees.
