Kyrgyzstan to improve provision of vital and essential medications

Bishkek, Dec. 24, 2025 /Kabar/. Special commission has been established in Kyrgyzstan to develop proposals to improve the provision of vital and essential medications to healthcare organizations, it was announced at working meeting between Health Minister Kanybek Dosmambetov and representatives of the private pharmaceutical sector.
The commission has been tasked with submitting specific recommendations by December 31, 2025.
During the meeting, it was stated that the short-term priority is to address the shortage of the most in-demand and vital medications, which certain categories of patients are currently forced to purchase outside the country. It was also emphasized that practical measures must be taken in the near future to supply these scarce medications.
"Given the growing need for medications on the EDL list and the scale of the healthcare system, ensuring uninterrupted supplies requires a comprehensive approach and consolidated efforts." In this regard, the Ministry of Health plans to strengthen and optimize the operations of the Kyrgyzpharmacy State Enterprise, including additional funding and improved procurement mechanisms," the Ministry of Health noted.
At the same time, it was emphasized that the current market structure, in which up to 95% of medicines are imported, is vulnerable. In this regard, the state has provided financial support instruments for domestic pharmaceutical companies, including loan programs through the State Development Bank aimed at localizing pharmacy production.
