Thai Defense Ministry sets firm stance ahead of border talks with Cambodia

BANGKOK, Dec 24 (TNA) - Thailand’s Defense Ministry has defined its stance ahead of Wednesday’s General Border Committee (GBC) meeting in Chanthaburi, citing Cambodian forces of five major international law violations.

The Thai position highlights five key violations, the use of historical sites as military bases, the possession of anti-personnel landmines, and the use of civilians and scammer hubs as human shields or armories.

The meeting remains in limbo as Cambodia has yet to confirm attendance, reportedly citing security fears and requesting a venue change to Malaysia.

Thai Defense Minister Nattapon Nakpanich, however, insisted the talks proceed on Thai soil. He warned that while Thailand seeks a technical ceasefire, it will respond to any further cross-border fire with necessity and proportionality, and may refuse to sign any agreements if technical terms are not met.

Preparation continued at the Banpakkad border crossing on Wednesday morning, with Thai marines readying the venue.

Thai officials maintained that Chanthaburi was chosen specifically for its safety, dismissing Cambodian concerns as they await a final confirmation from Phnom Penh. -819 (TNA)
