Successes in Land and Environment Protection Sector of DPRK

 Pyongyang, December 15 (KCNA) -- This year, the land and environment protection sector in the DPRK marked on the map the objects vulnerable to flood damage and bad and dangerous places, which were surveyed and grasped across the country, and pushed ahead with the projects of preventing flood damage. As a result, it carried out the planned projects for river improvement, anti-land-sliding projects and projects for building, repairing and reinforcing coast protection structures.
In particular, it ensured the designing related to the project for permanent embankments in the city of Sinuiju and the islet area of the county of Uiju and provided the technical guidance for the projects in a responsible manner.
It also worked out a nationwide long-term water-conservation plan for managing floods in a rational way and developing and using water resources, thus providing a guarantee for pushing forward with scientific water conservation according to yearly and stage-by-stage plans under the unified guidance of the central organ.
The plans for planting trees, including wild fruit trees and firewood forests, were fulfilled at 103.8 percent across the country and the seed-picking and sapling-production plans over-fulfilled by ensuring the sapling cultivation and the operation of tree nurseries on a scientific basis.
Progress has also been made in the work to improve the roads and the ecological environment.
South Hwanghae Province finished the project for paving the Haeju-Jaeryong road, building retaining walls and protection walls for safety and installing road safety facilities and road signs by August, thus improving the road technical conditions.
The Ministry of Land and Environment Protection finished drawing up the master plan for land development which reflected the medium- and long-term nationwide green plan. It thus opened up the prospect of conducting economic construction and land management in a far-sighted way by closely combining them with ecological environment protection according to the master plan.
It concluded the nationwide ecological environment survey and comprehensively analyzed and evaluated the changes in ecological environment of the past decade. In this way, it laid the foundation for comprehensively setting scientific goals and ways for improving the ecological environment of the country. -0-
