Thai PM Anutin to Speak with Trump Tonight, Says Foreign Minister

BANGKOK, Dec 12 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is scheduled to hold a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump tonight at 9:30 PM local time, Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow confirmed on Friday, noting the U.S. is expected to push for a ceasefire.
Sihasak said that while the U.S. likely wishes to see a cessation of hostilities, the issue is complex and does not require immediate haste.
The Foreign Minister stressed that the Prime Minister must talk with the military first about what Thailand’s stance should be.
A key focus of the conversation will be explaining Thailand's actions to the U.S., particularly in light of accusations from Cambodia. There has been constant provocation, when in reality, Thailand desires to live together in peace, he added.
Sihasak affirmed that Thailand would listen to any proposals from the U.S., but ultimately, any decision must be based on the national interest.
We will not accept anything that is forced upon us from the outside, the Foreign Minister concluded. -819 (TNA)
