The Interior Minister Affirms Iraq's Keenness To Benefit From NATO's Advanced Expertise

Baghdad /NINA/-Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari affirmed Iraq's keenness to benefit from NATO's advanced expertise.

A statement from his media office indicated that al-Shammari met with NATO's Deputy Secretary General for Operations, Ms. Borcera San, during his visit to Brussels, Belgium, to participate in the second international conference of the Global Alliance Against Migrant Smuggling.

During the meeting, they discussed strengthening cooperation between Iraq and NATO in the areas of developing security capabilities, training personnel, and supporting Iraq's efforts in combating terrorism and transnational organized crime, in addition to discussing ways to enhance joint coordination on issues of mutual interest.

 According to the statement, the Minister affirmed Iraq's keenness to benefit from NATO's advanced expertise in developing security and intelligence systems. He noted that the Ministry of Interior is committed to enhancing the professional training of its forces and raising their efficiency to confront modern security challenges.

For her part, the NATO Deputy Secretary General for Operations commended the significant progress Iraq is making in the field of internal security and combating criminal networks, emphasizing the Alliance's readiness to strengthen cooperation programs and technical support with the Iraqi Ministry of Interior.

This meeting is part of a series of meetings held by the Minister of Interior in Brussels with a number of international officials to strengthen security partnerships and exchange expertise in combating transnational crime./ End
