Ihsanoglu hails strong ties between OIC and Non-Aligned Movement

Jeddah, July 18, SPA -- The Secretary General of the Organization of
the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has
laid emphasis on the value for the OIC to attend the proceedings of
the Non-Alignment (NAM) Summit, particularly as 51 out 57 OIC Member
In a statement to the 15th Non-Aligned Movement Summit, which
concluded its works in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, last Thursday, the OIC
Secretary General stated that this fact is a demonstration of the
strong ties between the NAM and the OIC.

He also noted that since their establishment, both institutions have
endeavored to achieve common and shared aims and objectives including
ending new colonialism, racism, foreign occupation and exploitation.

The OIC Secretary General, in his statement which was delivered by
Ambassador Abdullah Alum, OIC Assistant Secretary General for
Political Affairs, referred to the Muslim world's pending causes
which represent a challenge to both sides, and drew attention to the
OIC's efforts in this respect.

Ihsanoglu also highlighted the OIC's particular attention accorded
to the causes of human rights, dignity and good governance as well as
to its tireless efforts in favor of promoting modernization and
moderation, according to a latest press release circulated by the
Organization of Islamic Conference.
