PM: Iraq's Vision In The Energy Sector Necessitates Cooperation With Int'l Companies

Baghdad / NINA/- Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani affirmed that Iraq’s energy vision is based on strengthening cooperation with international companies to advance the oil sector, facilitate technology transfer, and develop national expertise.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Media Office said that Al-Sudani received, on Tuesday, a delegation from the U.S.-based Chevron Corporation headed by Vice President Joe Ketch, in the presence of the Minister of Oil and a number of advisers and senior officials from the oil sector.
The statement noted that the meeting continued discussions on the investment of Nasiriyah oil field and explored prospects for cooperation regarding the West Qurna-2 field. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of achieving tangible outcomes from ongoing talks between the Ministry of Oil and Chevron, underscoring that Iraq’s openness to international partnerships aims to promote technology transfer and enhance the capabilities of Iraqi professionals.
Al-Sudani highlighted that the government prioritizes environmental considerations and social benefits in its cooperation with global companies, in addition to supporting urban development in areas hosting oil fields. He added that government planning is focused on expanding refining capacity across all Iraqi refineries and establishing a petrochemical industry in Dhi Qar province and other oil-producing regions.
For its part, the Chevron delegation expressed its commitment to developing bilateral agreements and supporting the Iraqi government’s vision of positioning Iraq as a regional energy hub in the Middle East, while planning for long-term strategic cooperation that ensures the effective development of oil fields./ End
