Kyrgyz president held talks with Pakistani PM

Bishkek, Dec. 4, 2025 /Kabar/. On December 4, as part of his state visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, President Sadyr Zhaparov held talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in narrow and expanded formats.

The parties discussed wide range of issues related to the further development of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, transport, and logistics spheres, as well as the promotion of joint projects in energy, infrastructure, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif warmly welcomed Sadyr Zhaparov and emphasized the historic significance of his visit to Pakistan, his first in 20 years.

He noted that the current visit opens new chapter in Kyrgyz-Pakistani relations and reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership. Prime Minister also praised Kyrgyzstan's economic performance under President Sadyr Zhaparov and emphasized the importance of consolidating efforts for the prosperity of the two countries. Pakistani Prime Minister emphasized that, with the effective implementation of joint initiatives, the two countries have the potential to increase mutual trade to $200 million in the coming years.

For his part, the Kyrgyz president noted that Kyrgyzstan views Pakistan as fraternal state and reliable partner united by spiritual, historical, and cultural ties, as well as shared Islamic values. He expressed the Kyrgyz side's desire to elevate political dialogue to new level, intensify the exchange of delegations, and expand regional cooperation. Sadyr Zhaparov also expressed confidence that the talks would be fruitful and would provide a powerful impetus to the further development of cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed in detail the joint development of transport infrastructure, noting the importance of advancing railway projects, including the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which will strengthen the region's transit potential.

The two countries expressed their desire to expand cooperation in the use of the Pakistani seaports of Karachi and Gwadar, which will create additional opportunities for Kyrgyzstan to access global markets.

Furthermore, the parties paid special attention to the implementation of the CASA-1000 regional energy project, which is of strategic importance for strengthening energy security and integrating infrastructure in Central and South Asia.
