PM Affirms The Commitment To Boosting Investment In Cooperation With The Private Sector And International Partners

Baghdad/NINA/- Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed the commitment to promoting investment in cooperation with the private sector and international partners.
His media office said in a statement that “Al-Sudani attended the Iraq Britain Business Council (IBBC) conference in Basra on Thursday, held under the theme “Gateway to Iraq,” with the participation of senior officials from Iraq, the United Kingdom, and international companies.
In his speech, Al-Sudani stressed that the conference’s slogan reflects a government vision to transform Basra and other provinces into genuine gateways for investment and trade, emphasizing the need to translate economic dialogue into practical programs and tangible projects that improve citizens’ lives.
He stated that the government is working to improve the business environment, modernize infrastructure, reform the energy sector, and empower the private sector as a key partner in development. He added that Iraq is leveraging its strategic location to become a bridge between East and West as part of a broader regional vision for stability and growth.
Al-Sudani highlighted Iraq’s significant economic assets, including the Grand Faw Port, the Development Road, and its oil and gas resources, noting that the government has simplified administrative procedures and advanced digitalization to support business and finance.
He explained that the government, in cooperation with Iraqi banks and international partners, is developing new financing tools to support strategic, medium, and small-scale projects. He also welcomed technical and investment cooperation with British companies and IBBC member firms.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of developing the logistics, port, and maritime transport sectors, affirming that Iraq has achieved better utilization of its oil and gas resources after previously losing between $8 and $9 billion annually due to fuel imports and gas flaring.
Al-Sudani described the Grand Faw Port and the Development Road as “the dream project” that will pave the way for a real economic transformation and the emergence of a new Iraq, noting that for the first time the country has a direct maritime access channel with a depth of 20 meters and a length of 23 kilometers.
He concluded by emphasizing the government’s support for partnership, training, and women’s entrepreneurship initiatives, noting that IBBC provides an essential platform for advancing projects in energy, infrastructure, education, and training across Iraq./ End
