Iran, Japan foreign minister discuss bilateral ties, regional issues

Tehran, IRNA – Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, have discussed the latest bilateral developments and international issues.
During a telephone conversation with Motegi on Monday, Araghchi congratulated his Japanese counterpart on his reappointment as Japan’s Foreign Minister.
The top Iranian diplomat expressed hope that, given Motegi’s previous experience and the history of constructive bilateral relations during his last tenure, close, creative, and effective cooperation would continue.
Reviewing the latest developments concerning Iran’s nuclear program and the actions of the US and the three European countries, the top Iranian diplomat reiterated, “It is the United States that must return to diplomacy by earning Iran’s trust.”
For his part, Motegi emphasized Tokyo’s commitment to playing a constructive role in enhancing peace and stability in the West Asia region, welcoming political initiatives to resolve regional and international issues, and reaffirmed his country’s support for political solutions.
The two ministers also reviewed the current status of bilateral cooperation, consular matters, and humanitarian issues between their countries. They stressed the importance of ongoing regular consultations and dialogue to strengthen the friendly relations between Iran and Japan.
