OTS Media Forum highlights sustainable and preventive measures against growing global information threats

A panel session on the theme “Sustainable and preventive measures against growing global information threats in the modern era: on the example of the media ecosystem of the Turkic states” was organized as part of the Media Forum of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Baku on November 27.
The forum’s panel discussion aimed to strengthen cooperation among Turkic states in the field of media and communications, was moderated by Rufat Hamzayev, Executive Director of the “AnewZ” international TV channel.
In his remarks, Natig Mammadli, Deputy Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, said that since its inception, the media has always faced threats and persecution, describing professionalism as key to its survival. He noted that the proliferation of AI-generated fake news is identified as a modern threat to media activities.
N.Mammadli highlighted legal measures undertaken in Azerbaijan to enhance information security.
Dauletkhan Zhienkulov, Deputy Director of Kazakhstan's “Khabar” agency, highlighted the multifaceted challenges of disinformation in the media landscape, noting that it aims to manipulate public opinion. He underscored that false information on social media accompanies most crises and exacerbates their complexity and consequences.
Other distinguished speakers described media as a strategic sector critical to national security because it shapes public opinion and conveys state messages globally. Therefore, developing a strong, resilient media ecosystem from technological, professional, and institutional standpoints becomes a matter of national security.
They also emphasized that a stronger media ecosystem stands as a strategic priority for Turkic states to combat increasing global information risks and disinformation, noting that this requires a focus on improving critical thinking, media literacy, and the ability to quickly adapt to new digital media trends. The speakers stressed the importance of forming a sustainable and secure media environment to address these challenges.
It was highlighted that deepening media cooperation among Turkic states is crucial for addressing modern challenges through shared standards and exchange of experience.
