Tourism Malaysia Launches New Sarawak Delta Geopark Package To Support UNESCO Bid

KUCHING, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- To support the Sarawak Delta's UNESCO Global Geopark bid for 2026, Tourism Malaysia has launched an expanded travel package.

The newly released Volume 2 of the Sarawak Delta Geopark Package offers 42 curated itineraries from 13 tour operators, designed to showcase the region's remarkable natural and cultural wealth.

“Curated by 13 tour operators from Sarawak, the packages showcase the region’s unique geological formations, diverse flora and fauna, thrilling adventure activities, rich cultural experiences and distinctive gastronomy.

“These packages serve as a key selling point as the Sarawak Delta Geopark prepares for its proposed designation as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2026,” said Tourism Malaysia in a statement on Thursday.

It added that the package was developed in collaboration with the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, in line with the Visit Malaysia (VMY) 2026 vision to empower sustainable and cultural tourism.

Among the captivating destinations highlighted are the Sarawak Cultural Village and Bako National Park in Kuching; the Wind and Fairy Cave Nature Reserve and Paku Rock Maze in Bau; as well as Annah Rais Homestay and Semadang River Kayak in Padawan.

Tourism Malaysia on Wednesday has partnered with the Association of Sarawak Inbound Agencies (ASIA), the Sarawak Tourism Board and Business Events Sarawak to host the Jom Ke Sarawak roadshow in Kuala Lumpur.

The event, featuring 22 Sarawak tourism representatives, aimed to position the state as a premier MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination, highlighted by a dedicated B2B session connecting local suppliers with buyers from the central region.

The launch was attended by Tourism Malaysia deputy director general (Promotions II) Samuel Lee Thai Hung, ASIA chairman Phillip Yong, and Sarawak Forestry Department head of Geopark Management Unit Madeline George Pau.

Separately, Tourism Malaysia reported a 14.5 per cent year-on-year increase in tourist arrivals, with Malaysia welcoming over 28.2 million visitors from January to August this year.

“Similarly, Sarawak demonstrated robust appeal, registering a total of 3,599,656 visitor arrivals from January to September 2025,” the statement added.
