Death Toll Rises as Crisis Grips Five Southern Provinces

TRANG, Nov 25 (TNA) - Severe flooding has escalated across Southern Thailand, affecting over hundreds of thousands of people across at least five provinces and causing multiple fatalities as mass water surges cut off major transport links.

The crisis deepened in Trang province following reports that a weir had broken, sending water 1-3 meters higher than previous inundations.

In Phatthalung, infrastructure damage is widespread; key roads are closed due to flooding and landslides. Continuous flash floods from the Banthat mountains swept away at least one home, though no casualties were reported in that incident.

Authorities are conducting 24-hour evacuations amid a rising death toll. Yala and Satun have reported a combined five fatalities, with Satun declaring an emergency disaster zone across all seven districts and struggling to deliver aid due to strong currents.

Narathiwat remains the most affected by displacement, with over 153,000 people affected. One death was reported. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation warned of continued heavy rain and elevated risk of flash floods and mudslides. -819 (TNA)
