Thai Elderly Man Spends Weeks on Rooftop as Ayutthaya Floods Persist

AYUTTHAYA, Nov 14 (TNA) - A 70-year-old man, La-iad, has been living, eating, and sleeping on the roof of his house in Sena, Ayutthaya, for up to three weeks as the province's flooding crisis enters its fourth month.
The overflow from the Noi River continues to submerge over 1,000 homes in the district, with water levels still rising following recent heavy rain.

La-iad, whose riverside home was among the first flooded, refuses to evacuate, citing fears for his belongings and lack of alternative shelter.
He uses a makeshift awning for sun protection and cooks on a small gas stove on the roof with vegetables grown in foam boxes floating in the water around his home.
With the electricity cut, his only light at night comes from a small oil lamp.
Residents fear the water may not recede for another two months.
