The EU Praises The Iraqi People For Exercising Their Democratic Right During The Parliamentary Elections

Baghdad / NINA /-The European Union praised the Iraqi people for exercising their democratic right to vote in the parliamentary elections held on Tuesday, describing the event as a key milestone in strengthening democracy and state institutions in the country.

In a statement, the EU said that “these elections represent a crucial opportunity for Iraq to reinforce its institutions, ensure inclusiveness and accountability, and solidify its political future.” The statement commended the efforts of the Iraqi authorities, the Independent High Electoral Commission, and civil society organizations for organizing and facilitating the voting process.

The EU also noted that it had deployed a team of experts to assess the electoral process, adding that the findings of this assessment will be presented to the Iraqi authorities. “Preliminary reports indicate a higher voter turnout compared to the previous elections in 2021 and 2018,” the statement added.

The European Union reaffirmed its unwavering support for Iraq’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, emphasizing that “Iraq’s stability has become increasingly important amid the ongoing geopolitical transformations in the Middle East.”

The EU further expressed its readiness to continue supporting Iraq as a key partner in advancing its democratic and reform agendas and in building a peaceful and stable future. /End
