Bahrain to host 19th meeting of GCC heads of legislative councils in November

Manama, Nov. 9 (BNA):  The Kingdom of Bahrain will host on Thursday, November 13, the 19th periodic meeting of the leaders of Shura, Representatives, National and Ummah Councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.  The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chair of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division.

The meeting aims to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and integration among GCC states and unify legislative positions and perspectives on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain will be headed by Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council.

The main meeting will be preceded by the 24th meeting of the Parliamentary Coordination and Foreign Relations Committee, scheduled for Tuesday, to review agenda items, reports, and recommendations to be presented for adoption during the final session.

The 19th meeting agenda includes several key topics, notably the report of the 18th meeting; recommendations from a symposium on the legislative role of GCC parliaments in artificial intelligence governance; discussions on joint issues among GCC legislative councils; enhancing parliamentary cooperation with the European Parliament; strengthening ties with the parliaments of Latin American and Caribbean countries; a proposal for the GCC Secretariat General to join the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) as an observer; and expanding cooperation with the Parliament of Ukraine.

Hosting the meeting reflects Bahrain’s leading role in supporting joint GCC parliamentary work and promoting cooperation and coordination among legislative councils, contributing to unified stances on Gulf, Arab, and international matters, and advancing legislative integration across GCC states.
