Thailand Repatriates 270 Indian Scam Victims Fleeing Myanmar Compound

TAK, Nov 7 (TNA) - Thai security officials on Thursday oversaw the repatriation of 270 Indian nationals who were allegedly victims of an online scam operation and had fled a notorious compound in neighbouring Myanmar.
The group was the first batch of 465 Indian nationals to be sent home, arriving with their luggage at Mae Sot International Airport in Tak province after being transported from the immigration office.
The individuals were among a total of 1,598 foreign nationals from 28 countries who crossed the border into Thailand following a military siege on Oct. 22 at KK Park, a well-known online scam center in Myawaddy, Myanmar, situated on the Moei River bordering Mae Sot.
Indian nationals formed the largest group among the escapees at 465.
The remaining 195 Indian nationals are currently undergoing investigation and procedural steps, with a large aircraft expected to be sent by India on Nov. 10 to collect them. - 819 (TNA)
