Al-Araji: Iraq Committed to Global Openness and Strengthening Strategic Ties with the United States

Baghdad / NINA /-Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji affirmed that the Iraqi government remains committed to pursuing an open-door policy with all countries of the world, in a manner that serves Iraq’s security and economic interests and strengthens cooperation in the field of development.

The National Security Chancellery said in a statement that al-Araji received today a high-level U.S. delegation headed by Joseph Kent, Director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center, and attended by Joshua Harris, the U.S. Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires in Baghdad.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to enhance relations between Iraq and the United States in a manner that supports mutual interests, in addition to continuing cooperation and the exchange of expertise and information in the field of counterterrorism.

The U.S. delegation praised Iraq’s balanced political approach in avoiding involvement in regional and international conflicts and its constructive efforts to promote stability in the region.

For his part, al-Araji stressed that the strategic partnership between Iraq and the United States serves the interests of both countries and strengthens their mutual cooperation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining dialogue and coordination on security and economic issues.

Al-Araji also expressed appreciation for the countries that have repatriated their nationals from al-Hol camp, commending the success of the recent conference in New York that addressed this issue. He reiterated that Iraq’s ultimate goal is to close the camp completely to ensure lasting security and stability in the region and the world.

The U.S. delegation, in turn, commended the Iraqi government’s efforts to repatriate Iraqi families from the al-Hol camp, rehabilitate them, and reintegrate them into society. /End
