Azerbaijan, Romania explore enhancing partnerships between national news agencies

The Azerbaijani delegation, visiting Romania, met with Claudia Victoria Nicolae, Director General of Romanian AGERPRES National News Agency.

The meeting addressed issues such as deepening cooperation between the national news agencies of Azerbaijan and Romania, expanding information exchange, and implementing joint media projects.

Claudia Victoria Nicolae highlighted AGERPRES's activity in international news networks, including the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) and the EU Media Forum, highlighting the importance of developing relations with Azerbaijan in information sector and expanding news and photo exchanges.

Vugar Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC), mentioned the long-term cooperation between the agency and AGERPRES, noting that further strengthening these ties lays the groundwork for a reliable partnership in the regional and global information landscape. He described mutual experience exchange, joint training programs for journalists and creation of joint media products as future areas of media cooperation.

Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, highlighted the application of new communication technologies like AI in media, and proposed to collaborate in this area to enhance the media sectors of both countries.

In his remarks, Ismat Sattarov, Chairman of the Audiovisual Council, underscored the importance of studying the Romanian experience in regulating audiovisual and digital media platforms and strengthening public oversight mechanisms.

The parties also explored the use of AI technologies in digitization of photo archives, restoration and automated classification of archives. A preliminary agreement was reached on developing joint pilot projects and exchanging practices in this area.

The Azerbaijani delegation was informed about the AGERPRES archive at the meeting, which was also attended by the country's Ambassador to Romania, Gudsi Osmanov.

The Azerbaijani media officials also viewed a historical photo and video collection of the Romanian news agency, highlighting the rich bilateral relations between the two countries. The collection includes rare materials on bilateral visits, meetings between the two countries’ heads of state, and cultural events from the past century to the present.

The parties agreed to organize a joint photo exhibition based on these materials. The exhibition will feature photos reflecting the development of Romanian-Azerbaijani relations from the Soviet era to the present day and the historical roots of friendship between the two countries.
