Harvest of barberries has begun in the fields of Afin, a village in Zirkuh, South Khorasan Province, eastern Iran. Home to the world's largest barberry garden, the village is known as the “Barberry Capital of Iran”. With several thousand hectares of barberry gardens, Afin is one of the country's main barberry producers and becomes a major domestic tourist destination every autumn.
According to official estimates, this year’s production is expected to reach approximately 20,000 metric tons. Due to its natural setting, unique climate, and the vast expanse of its barberry gardens, Afin has gained significant agricultural importance in recent years.
