KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Canada have agreed to strengthen their economic and investment ties, while also exploring new opportunities in green energy, innovation and education towards inclusive and sustainable growth.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the matter was agreed upon during a bilateral meeting with his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney, on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, here Monday.
Citing examples, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said the Petronas Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) joint venture in Canada stands as a strong example of both nations’ mutual confidence and partnership.
In his Facebook post Monday, the Prime Minister said Carney’s maiden official visit to Asia since assuming office in March reflects Canada’s commitment to deeper engagement with ASEAN, especially in economic cooperation and sustainable development.
Carney arrived in Malaysia on Saturday to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits as Guest of the Chair, at the invitation of the Prime Minister.
He was accompanied by his spouse Diana Fox Carney, as well as Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu and senior government officials.
