Thai PM Outlines Core Security and Economic Vision at ASEAN Summits

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul used the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur to push for enhanced regional cooperation, specifically at the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) and ASEAN-Republic of Korea (ROK) Summits. Addressing the APT leaders including China, Japan, and South Korea, Anutin proposed a "Three-Pillar Security" concept: prioritizing Financial Security, strengthening Digital Security including against cybercrime, and advancing Human Security through measures like smart agricultural technology to boost food supplies.
This vision aligns with the joint statement later adopted by the APT leaders to strengthen regional financial and economic cooperation.

At the ASEAN-ROK Summit, where he met South Korean President Lee Jae-myung for the first time, Anutin outlined three key areas to boost the strategic partnership. He called for support for South Korea’s AI Initiative and greater digital collaboration; acceleration of economic agreements, including the Thailand–ROK Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and an upgrade of the ASEAN-Korea Trade Agreement (AKFTA) and joint action toward a Green and Sustainable Future.
As the current Country Coordinator for the relationship, the Thai Premier stressed the importance of delivering concrete results from the new ASEAN-ROK Plan of Action (2026-2030) and enhancing cooperation on new security threats like cybersecurity. -819 (TNA)
