Trump Hails Malaysia As a “Great, Very Vibrant Country”

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- United States (US) President Donald Trump has described Malaysia as “a great, very vibrant country” after concluding his two-day visit here for the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
In a post on his Truth Social account on Monday, upon departing for Japan, Trump said the US had signed major trade and rare earth deals with Malaysia, the host of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
He added that, most importantly, he had also witnessed the sign of a peace deal between Thailand and Cambodia on Sunday.
“NO WAR! Millions of lives saved.
“Such an honor to have gotten this done. Now, off to Japan!!!,” posted the President of the world's largest economy.
Trump arrived in Malaysia around 10 am on Sunday to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, and departed at 10.06 am today, marking the conclusion of his maiden visit to Malaysia and his first participation in an ASEAN Leaders’ Summit since beginning his second presidency in January 2025.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, witnessed the signing of the historic KL Peace Accord, between Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.
He also signed trade agreements with Cambodia and Thailand on Sunday.
During his tight schedule, Trump also conducted a bilateral meeting with Anwar, signed the Malaysia-US Reciprocal Trade Agreement, and inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in critical minerals.
He also attended the 13th ASEAN-US Summit.
Trump is the third American president in history to visit Malaysia, after Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966 and Barack Obama in 2014 and 2015.
