MotoGP: Marquez Dominates Malaysia’s Sepang, Secures Third Title of the Season
SEPANG (Selangor, Malaysia), Oct 26 (Bernama)-- Alex Marquez lit up the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) today with a stunning display as the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP rider stormed to his third victory of the season at the 2025 Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP).
Under the blistering midday sun, Marquez, who started second on the grid behind defending Malaysia GP champion Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati Lenovo Team, wasted no time asserting his intent.
By the second lap, he launched a daring move past Bagnaia to seize the lead and was untouchable from then on.
Lap after lap, the 29-year-old went through the heat haze, never looking back, before crossing the finish line in 40 minutes 09.249 seconds (s).
The battle for second place kept spectators at SIC on the edge of their seats as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pedro Acosta piled on the pressure against Bagnaia.
Acosta eventually overtook the Italian on lap 13 and held firm to secure second place, finishing 2.676s behind Marquez.
Bagnaia’s day went from bad to worse as he dropped further down the order before slowing his bike, returning to the pit lane and retiring from the race with three laps remaining.
Honda HRC Castrol rider Joan Mir completed the podium in third place, 8.048s behind Marquez, marking his second podium finish of the season after the Japanese GP last month.
Today’s result saw Marquez collected 413 points behind his brother from Ducati Lenovo Team, who missed the rest of the season due to injury, with 545 points.
Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia Racing is now third with 291 points while Bagnaia is in fourth with 286 points in the world championships standings after 20 events.
The season will continue in GP Portugal at Algarve International Circuit from Nov 7-9.
