Tajikistan and Iran to lift visa requirements for official passport holders

Tehran, IRNA –The government of the Republic of Tajikistan has approved a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran to abolish visa requirements for officials holding diplomatic and service passports.

According to Tajik media reports, following the decision made on Saturday, the foreign ministries of both countries will determine the time and location for signing the MoU, in accordance with established procedures.

Reports also indicate that minor amendments may be made to the draft if both sides mutually deem them necessary. The agreement is expected to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations and facilitate travel for officials and diplomats.

Last year, Tajikistan and Iran lifted visa requirements for ordinary passport holders, initially applying only to travelers on the Dushanbe–Tehran and Tehran–Dushanbe air routes.

Under the agreement that took effect in October 2024, citizens with ordinary passports from either country may enter the other without a visa and stay for up to 30 days within 90 days from their first entry.
