World Poverty Day: Kyrgyzstan shows positive momentum

Bishkek, Oct. 17, 2025 /Kabar/. October 17th, the world celebrates World Poverty Day. The Kyrgyz Republic has achieved significant results in reducing poverty, according to data shared by the World Bank. According to the international poverty line of $4.20 per day, the indicator fell from 22.1% in 2022 to 12.1% in 2024. By 2025, the poverty rate is projected to fall to 9.5%, and by 2026, to 8%. Experts note that this positive trend is due to sustainable economic growth, the implementation of government social protection programs, and increased pension payments.

However, analytical assessments emphasize that slowing GDP growth could limit further poverty reduction. Therefore, the creation of new jobs and the development of the manufacturing sector remain key factors for continued progress.

Currently, the World Bank program in the Kyrgyz Republic is financing 27 projects aimed at modernizing and developing various socioeconomic sectors, from infrastructure and healthcare to education and digitalization. The mission of the World Bank is to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet.
