President, NATO Mission Commander Discuss Strengthening Security Cooperation

Baghdad / NINA /- President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received today, Monday, at the Presidential Palace in Baghdad, the Commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mission in Iraq Christoph Hentzi and his accompanying delegation to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides.
According to a presidential statement, the President reaffirmed Iraq’s keenness to strengthen its partnership with NATO, particularly in the areas of training, advisory support, and the development of military capabilities, in a way that contributes to boosting the efficiency and readiness of Iraqi military institutions.
The meeting also included a review of the latest regional and international developments and emphasized the importance of intensifying international efforts to promote security, stability, and peace in the region.
President Rashid noted that Iraq is currently enjoying a state of stability and security as it prepares for the upcoming parliamentary elections, stressing the government’s commitment to ensuring that the elections are free, fair, and inclusive of all segments of Iraqi society.
He also highlighted his participation in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, pointing out Iraq’s key positions on various local and international issues. The President further referred to the international conference on the repatriation of individuals from Al-Hol Camp and surrounding detention sites, underscoring the international support Iraq has received to close this file.
For his part, the NATO Mission Commander reaffirmed the Alliance’s readiness to continue supporting Iraq through its training and advisory programs and to further strengthen the existing frameworks of cooperation in a way that serves the mutual interests of both sides. /End
