BJA President commends royal speech at inauguration of fourth session of sixth legislative term

Manama, Oct. 12 (BNA): Isa Al Shaiji, President of the Bahraini Journalists Association (BJA) and the Editor-in-Chief of Al Ayam newspaper, said the speech of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa addressed legislative progress, citing the Press, Printing and Publishing Law amendments now approaching completion.

Al Shaji underlined His Majesty the King’s vision on freedom of opinion and expression and the contribution of the national media to transparency and responsibility.

The BJA president said that the national press has seen significant development under His Majesty’s leadership, supported by the National Action Charter, which expanded press freedoms, enhanced regional and international standing, and adapted to digital and technological progress.

He expressed appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the support of the legislative amendments and for enhancing the role of the national press in a secure and free environment.

Al Shaiji concluded that the amendments under review by the Shura Council will modernise media legislation, uphold constitutional safeguards for freedom of expression, and provide the national media with the means to operate responsibly, ensuring its continued role in sustainable national development.
