Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to UN participates in 7th C-10 Summit on Security Council reform

New York, Sep. 24 (BNA): Jamal Fares Al Ruwaiei, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, participated in the seventh summit of the Committee of Ten (C-10) Heads of State and Government of the African Union on Security Council Reform, held at the UN headquarters. He attended in his capacity as Coordinator of the Arab Group on Security Council reform.
The summit was chaired by Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and Coordinator of the C-10, together with João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and Chair of the African Union, and Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chair of the African Union Commission.
In his statement, the Permanent Representative underlined the importance of the summit, which coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration. He highlighted the deep historical, political, economic, social, and cultural ties between Arab and African peoples.
He reiterated the shared Arab and African positions in support of comprehensive UN reform, particularly of the Security Council, to reflect current international realities and secure fairer representation for developing countries, especially Arab and African states, which remain unrepresented in the category of permanent seats.
He noted that previous Arab-African summits confirmed the firm commitment to the reform process, ensuring greater multilateralism and transparency in intergovernmental negotiations. He added that the "Pact for the Future", adopted last year, provides new momentum to advance reform.
He concluded by emphasising the commitment to continue collective action to achieve the desired reform of the Security Council, contributing to the consolidation of peace and security at regional and international levels.
