Kyrgyzstan and Japan to deepen partnership in hydropower and renewable energy

Bishkek, Sept. 18, 2025 /Kabar/. On September 16, Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev met with Japanese Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Takehiko Matsuo as part of the Second Central Asia-Japan Ministerial Dialogue on Economy and Energy.

According to the ministry, during the talks, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral energy cooperation, including the implementation of joint projects in hydropower, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. Particular attention was paid to low-carbon development, energy transition, and skilled labor training.

The minister expressed gratitude to the Japanese side for its support in implementing projects in Kyrgyzstan and emphasized its readiness to further deepen the partnership. In turn, Takehiko Matsuo confirmed Japan's interest in expanding cooperation with the Kyrgyz Republic in the energy sector.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue constructive dialogue and intensify joint work in priority areas of cooperation.
