KHGC launches second edition of Joint Postgraduate Diploma with participation of students from 63 countries

Manama, Sep. 14 (BNA): Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance, emphasised the Centre’s commitment to continuing its educational programmes to empower youth and to spread the culture of peace, dialogue and understanding among peoples as enduring principles, in line with the wise humanitarian vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

On the occasion of launching the second edition of the Joint Postgraduate Diploma on Coexistence, he expressed his pride in the constructive cooperation between the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance, the United Nations-affiliated University for Peace, and the Gioya Higher Education Institute in Malta. The programme focuses on issues of peace, human rights, international law, and combating extremism and hatred, with one hundred students from 63 countries, following the success of the first edition, which received broad international and UN recognition.

He added that this programme comes within the Centre’s pioneering educational initiatives in cooperation with international partners. It embodies the enlightened Royal vision and the directives of the Government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to advance the role of education as a fundamental pillar for embedding coexistence and tolerance, building bridges of religious and cultural dialogue, and supporting sustainable development.

The Minister and Chairman of the Board of Trustees welcomed the participating students, urging them to engage openly with the programme and to benefit from its updated courses, which combine academic theory with practical applications delivered through virtual platforms and field activities that reflect Bahrain’s pioneering model of coexistence. This will enable them to acquire knowledge and skills that qualify them as future leaders in promoting understanding, mutual respect, intercultural dialogue, and the rejection of hatred.

The second edition of the Joint Postgraduate Diploma on Coexistence has attracted wide participation from students of different nationalities. This reflects the international community’s confidence in Bahrain’s pioneering role in promoting the culture of peace and its appreciation of the initiatives of the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance to instil noble human values. The United Nations Human Rights Council praised the first edition of the programme as a unique initiative that strengthens the role of education as a tool to counter hate speech and to achieve coexistence and social peace at the global level.
