Foreign Minister attends meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers Council

Jeddah, Aug. 25 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Jeddah. The meeting was chaired by Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, and attended by foreign ministers of the member states and Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary General of the OIC.
Dr. Al Zayani said the meeting reflects the deep concern of the Islamic nation over the ongoing humanitarian crisis and the suffering of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories, with a shared commitment to halt the war in Gaza.
He confirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s firm support for the Palestinian cause, which is central to the Islamic nation and essential for peace, security and sustainable stability in the region. He emphasised that achieving this requires negotiations among all parties to reach a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
The Foreign Minister highlighted that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and the deprivation of civilians from food, water, medicine and essential services, underlines the shared duty to support the rights of Gaza’s people to life, freedom and dignity.
He added that Bahrain calls for unified diplomatic action and intensified efforts with the United Nations and Security Council to end the conflict, respect international humanitarian law, quickly release hostages, facilitate relief efforts, and promote just and lasting peace in the region.
Dr. Al Zayani commended the efforts of the ministerial committee emerging from the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit and appreciated Saudi Arabia’s leadership of the international coalition for a two-state solution. He expressed support for the Qatari-Egyptian-American mediation efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and release of hostages, as well as Egyptian initiatives for recovery and reconstruction in Gaza.
He underlined that the Kingdom, as a non-permanent member of the Security Council (2026-2027), will prioritise the Palestinian cause and highlight its justice internationally, renewing its full commitment to support the Palestinian people in their pursuit of legitimate rights and ending occupation.
