Iran, Armenia review the outcomes of Yerevan-Baku negotiations

Tehran, IRNA – President Masoud Pezeshkian and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan have discussed the outcomes of the Yerevan-Baku negotiations, which took place in Washington.
According to the Armenian news agency Armenpress, Pezeshkian and Pashinyan held a telephone conversation on Monday.
Pezeshkian described the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Armenia as strategic, adding that the ties between the two countries have always been constructive, based on good neighborliness, and mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity.
He emphasized that adopting principled and logical approaches has always been the solid foundation for strengthening the friendly and strategic ties between Tehran and Yerevan, and any effort or action aimed at undermining these deep and historical relations will be firmly rejected and unacceptable by both sides.
Pezeshkian further stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as an anchor of peace, stability, and security in the region, welcomes any agreement that promotes peace, particularly among regional countries.
Referring to the agreement on implementing a transit corridor project in the Caucasus with US involvement, Pezeshkian warned against potential actions by the American side that, under the guise of economic investment and claims of ensuring peace, might pursue hegemonic ambitions in the Caucasus.
He underscored the necessity of preserving Armenia’s sovereignty in this process and preventing any military or security interference under the pretext of this project.
The President emphasized the value and importance of neighborly relations, particularly among Iran, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, saying that the continuity and strengthening of these ties depend on vigilance, coordination, mutual understanding, and avoiding any foreign interference.
Pezeshkian highlighted that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always prioritized shared interests in regional relations, especially with neighbors, and is confident that this approach will be regarded as a fundamental priority among neighboring countries as well.
For his part, Pashinyan said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran’s emphasis on preserving Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is highly valuable and significant for us. We will not sign any agreement unless we are fully assured that the interests, considerations, and sensitivities of our friendly neighbor, Iran, are respected.”
He stressed that relations and cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran hold a special and distinguished place for Armenia, adding that Armenia considers its ties with Iran strategic, and all major decisions and actions will be taken through bilateral consultation and coordination.
During this call, Pashinyan highlighted the results of the recent negotiations in the US capital and emphasized the opportunities that the newfound peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan presents for the region.
He added that regional pathways will operate within the framework of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the jurisdiction of countries, emphasizing the importance of reciprocity.
The Armenian Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the Iranian side for its impartial evaluation of the agreements made in Washington and highlighted the significance of Pezeshkian’s upcoming visit to Armenia.
Earlier, the Iranian Foreign Ministry welcomed a peace deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia, saying that peace and stability in the Caucasus benefits all countries in this region. The ministry, at the same time, has expressed concern over the adverse effects of foreign intervention at the joint borders.
The ministry also announced Iran’s readiness to continue constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation with both Azerbaijan and Armenia to preserve regional peace, stability, and economic development through bilateral and regional mechanisms, such as the 3+3 format.
